Hello,

We are open this week for coworking: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, with Pendra, Erin, Ev, Fiona and Ellie.

And a heads up: we’ll be closed Monday 4 May and Monday 25 May for the bank holidays.

Discounted coworking

If you cowork regularly, or would like to, did you know you could save a few quid by having a rolling monthly membership?

When you have purchased your subscription, you can book a desk as usual through our bookings page. We’ll email you a unique subscription code to apply at the checkout whenever you want to book a desk.

What’s caught our attention:

We are always happy to share what you’re working on, especially if you are part of the coworking space community. If you have anything you’d like to share, email: [email protected]

  • This week is Loaf’s last week of pop-ups at Verbena. They will be open: Weds-Fri 12noon-3pm. You can pre-order or pop-in on the day. Loaf are looking for somewhere they can sell from during the day in May, as Verbena is closing - maybe you’re a Stirchley high street business owner reading this newsletter and you might be able to accommodate them? This week, coworkers can also buy buns directly from weekly regular/coworker/Loaf co-op member Dorit. Read Loaf’s latest newsletter.

  • Boodle Fight have moved into the left-hand side of the former Loaf premises - they’re not open yet, but they have a shiny new yellow sign. I’d never heard of them, but a friend (hi Fran) recommends their vegan kare kare and mango and banana cake. Sounds good!

  • Friends of Rea Valley Stirchley have teamed up with Fruit and Nut Village and Birmingham & Black Country Wildlife Trust for a new project: Trees for the Future. There are two upcoming dates where YOU can get involved planting new trees. (If you think about the state of the world and it makes you sad, there’s nothing more restorative than doing something good in the community on your doorstep.) Flyer via instagram.

  • Two local election hustings have caught our eye(s). (In case it’s new to you: a husting is a meeting where election candidates / parties debate and answer questions from the audience. Birmingham’s local elections take place on Thursday 7 May.)

    • Stirchley’s Hustings, Monday 27 April, 7.30pm, free, at Stirchley Community Church (that’s the one opposite the Baths). Hosted by Stirchley Neighbourhood Forum. All candidates are invited to attend. Parties represented are (in alphabetical order):

      • Green Party

      • Labour & Cooperative Party

      • Liberal Democrats

      • Local Conservatives

      • Reform UK.

    • The Dispatch Birmingham Hustings, Monday 27 April, 6.30pm, The Priory Rooms, Quaker Meeting House on Bull Street, City Centre, ticketed £5/3. Those confirmed to take part (alphabetised):

      • Akhmed Yakoob (Independent Candidate Alliance)

      • Cllr Robert Alden (Conservative)

      • Cllr Roger Harmer (Liberal Democrats)

      • Cllr Sam Forsyth (Harborne, Quinton & Oscott Independents)

      • Cllr John Cotton (Labour, Leader of Birmingham City Council)

      • Cllr Julien Pritchard (Green Party)

      • Jex Parkin (Reform UK)

  • Coworker Lara’s musical theatre group The Arcadians are holding fundraiser concerts on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May (including a matinee on the Saturday, where kids are very welcome). Featuring songs from musicals including Matilda, The Lion King, Wicked and Hamilton. There’s also a tombola! Tickets via Ticketsource.

  • Lastly, we have politically neutral posters that Better Streets for Birmingham have produced ahead of the local elections. If you would like one - and there’s a few statements to choose from - you can collect from the coworking space during the week. We went for: We will vote for safer streets for our children. More about the campaign here.
