We’re using a new (to us) newsletter platform, so things may look a little different in this week’s newsletter. Still the usual local links down the bottom - scroll on.

We are open this week for coworking Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with Pendra, Erin, Ev, Fiona and Ellie.

— Kerry & Pendra

Photo by Jack Spicer Adams. The plant on the left is a cutting from my Nan’s Easter flowering cactus. The tea pot in the middle was from a lovely friend. I had found the other two post-office themed tea pots that we have (not pictured) by chance on Hazelwell Road - of all the people, and of all the teapots. (I do not wish to grow the collection further.) Boob cactus on the right is currently in plant hospital at my house due to lack of light.

Venue hire

We have a few evenings a week, and occasional weekends, available for ongoing regular hire. If you make it a regular thing we’ll give you a set of keys and help promote whatever it is you’re doing through these newsletters and our community (if appropriate, of course.)

Chat to Pendra if you’re interested - [email protected]

What’s caught our attention:

We are always happy to share what you’re working on, especially if you are part of the coworking space community - email: [email protected]

  • All About Floodgate is taking place on Tuesday 17 March (online, 7pm) “This evening is a must for anyone who loves reading and independent presses, those who’d like to be included in the upcoming anthology or who would like to write for Floodgate Press in the future. An open-to-all question-and-answer session will conclude this fun and revealing event.” The event costs £5. redeemable against any Floodgate Press book via their website. All proceeds from the event will go to Floodgate to help publish more new writing from this region. Tickets via eventbrite.

  • Stirchley Open Cinema are screening Spinal Tap (1984, 1hr22, Dir: Rob Reiner) at Stir on Thursday 19 February. ‘Get ready for big hair, bigger egos, and the most gloriously disastrous tour in rock history as we dive into a film that redefined comedy and still steals the show decades later.’ Tickets via Ticket Tailor.

  • Birmingham’s music-lovers are being asked to shape the city’s musical story. The Birmingham music visitors' experience survey has been drawn up by local organisations working together to celebrate and expand the region's rich musical offering. The Music Visitor Experience project is a collaboration between Birmingham Museums Trust, Birmingham Music Archive, the Live Music Mapping Project at Aston University, cultural consultant Lara Ratnaraja and Birmingham City Council, with support from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The survey is open to the public until 26 February.

  • Flatpack Festival are looking for volunteers for their 20th festival. Former TOPO keyholder Abbe (we miss you!) is their Head of Operations and has written up a blogpost with more information. Release the unicorns!

  • Lastly, I’ve been reading stories that form part of the Unlocking The Vaults project, a heritage lottery funded project about Birmingham Municipal Bank. Do you have memories of the building? ‘As part of the project, we are collecting oral histories and recollections from people who have engaged with the building. This will help us build a picture of the people who have brought the building to life over the years. Submit your own to [email protected]
