Happy New Year!
I’m easing into 2026 with a bit less time on social media, but there’s still a bunch of links in this newsletter (below) for local events, mainly wassails, to start you off.
I hope you can take it easy into the New Year too. We are open this week for coworking Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with Pendra, Erin, Ev, Fiona and Ellie.

A Stirchley Primary School child has launched a petition for a crossing on Mary Vale Road. Lend your support here.
WASSAILS! (‘The word ‘wassail’ comes from the Old Norse for ‘good health’, and wassailing generally involved drinking to peoples’ health, often while singing about it… In the countryside, farmers would go out in groups with [their] spiced ale, wassailing to the animals and sometimes also trees in the orchards. By singing and toasting their health, farming communities hoped to ensure the prosperity of crops and livestock in the coming year. Source.)
Stirchley Wassail - Saturday 17 January at Birmingham Brewing Company. Fruit and Nut Village’s Stirchley Wassail is back at Birmingham Brewing Co. for 2026 and is bigger than ever. “We have a fantastic line up of music, poetry, and dance to get us going, as well as stalls from charities around Birmingham. Stalls will be open and acts will begin from 3pm, and our procession to wake the trees will be later that evening. Please wear warm clothes, bring a torch or other light source (but no fire and open flames), and something like bells”. Sign up for your free ticket.
Kings Heath Wassail - Sunday 18 January at Kings Heath Park with Birmingham Tree People. Meet at The Old School of Horticulture. “Join us as we drive the bad spirits from the trees with music and cheer, encouraging their new growth for the spring with good wishes and offerings. All are welcome in this traditional of post-Christmas gathering to celebrate nature and its bounty.” More info.
Cotteridge Park ordinarily have a wassail too, tbc so keep your eyes on their website / sign up to their newsletter.
Treasure Knit Club is on twice this week - Thursday 8 January 6-8pm and Sunday 11 January 4-6pm at Nook in Kings Heath. ‘Perfect if your new years plans involve learning to knit, picking your knitting needles back up again, learning to make your own good quality clothes, finding a mindful hobby to help you switch off, getting to know more people - or just having less screen time’. Crocheters and other fibre-crafts also welcome. Suggested donation £5.
Stirchley Sewing School (at The Old Post Office) have dates up on their website for some beginners courses. Including on Valentines Day which is a Saturday this year. If you have spoken to me for more than 5 minutes in the last year I am sure I will have told you all about the things I’ve been making and fixing with my sewing machine and new skills. I went to Stirchley Sewing School in October 2024 and I am converted. www.stirchleysewingschool.com
