Hello all,

Phew what a weekend - The Old Post Office was open Friday night for the usual C90 Community Chorus, and on Saturday and Sunday it was open for Birmingham Open Studios (more on that below).

Back to coworking! The Old Post Office is open for coworking Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with Pendra, Erin and Ellie.

I want to take a moment to say thank you to Mark and Bryn, who, after three years are standing down as our Monday keyholders, as CODA Workshop is moving into its own offices. Thanks for giving up your Mondays - and several other days when the coworking space needed cover (especially in the early days of TOPO, when I had a toddler with a nursery bug seemingly every week!). All the best!

— Kerry, on behalf of TOPO

Birmingham Open Studios

Thanks to everyone who came to visit the coworking space as part of this year’s first weekend of Birmingham Open Studios. The city art trail continues this coming weekend (27 & 28 September) - and just a reminder, we aren’t open for the second weekend of the trail.

You can find out who is opening their doors for the second weekend of Birmingham Open Studios here: birminghamopenstudios.co.uk

Thanks to our exhibiting artists:

We’re DELIGHTED to be included in Izzy Kennedy’s new Stirchley 2025 print (below). Maybe we’ll have a shop sign by the time her 2026 print rolls around?

Music to work to

In last week’s newsletter we shared a podcast Pendra was a guest speaker on.

This week, we have his Music to work to playlist. 15+1 for our 151st newsletter.

There was a Meet the coworker interview with Pendra last year too - should you need a refresher on just exactly who we’re talking about here, if you aren’t a regular at the coworking space. What this post doesn’t mention, is that Pendra is well and truly the glue holding the coworking space together behind the scenes.

Here’s his playlist to kickstart your week:

What’s caught our attention:

  • Parenting Out Loud, a culture change movement encouraging dads to be LOUD and PROUD about their childcare responsibilities at work, have a Working Dads Summit tomorrow, Tuesday 23 September at 1pm. Tickets (free)

  • Raise a glass of Birmingham tap water, shout Alright Bab at the top of your voice, International Day of Birmingham (IDOB) returns on Wednesday 24 September www.IDOB.co.uk (image above from IDOB website, illustrator Bam Bam Birmingham)

  • Personal Growth is a short film by a local filmmaker Andrew Rutter, who is looking for backers via Kickstarter. ‘Paul, suffering a recent bereavement discovers a human growth poking halfway out of the grass in his garden. After calling a specialist for it to be removed, Paul is left with a dark empty hole that threatens to confront him with the things he’d prefer to keep buried.’ Pledge your support by Friday 26 September on Kickstarter

  • Midlands based artist Suminder Virk’s exhibition The Architecture of Chandigarh is into its final week at The Hive in the JQ. The exhibition captures the essence of the brutalist architecture in her hometown Chandigarh. 4 - 26 September, Open: Tuesday - Friday 10am-3.30pm (free)

  • Birmingham’s first Photobook Fair - CENTRAL is on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October at Birmingham City University’s Parkside Building. As well as exhibitions and a marketplace, there is a free programme of events. I’m going to be heading to Books from The Pete James Archive - Curated by Stirchley-local Stuart Whipps, and Palestine Bound - Curated by Mohamed Somji & Chris Neopytou. More information on the CENTRAL website

We are always happy to share what you’re working on, especially if you are part of the coworking space community! Tell us via [email protected]
