Hello,Welcome to newsletter #51 from Kerry who runs The Old Post Office - your weekly insight into how much time I *really* spend on instagram/twitter. This week I'm doing my usual - sharing some local links to things that have caught my eye, there's a reminder for my first born; Stirchley Community Market, and a place-making-related playlist. Thanks to CODA workshop and Jo BCM for covering me last week when nursery was in snow chaos.See you in the week!— Kerry

What caught my eye last week:

  • Maisie Violet has three craft/interiors-inspired workshops coming up at Grace and James - gold leaf, collage and pot painting - I want to go to them all

  • Dads Lane Community Centre opens this week (on Pineapple Road/Cartland Road corner, not Dad's Lane). I'm sure there's a history behind why that is.  "Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and 12noon.  Drop in for a Warm Welcome with tea, coffee and biscuits on a Pay As You Feel basis. We have a ramp for accessibility and there are some toys, books and high chairs available. Feel free to bring a craft with you!" I saw this via instagram

  • Cara, the artist behind Planet Brill, was in the coworking space last week - her product designs are lots of fun - and her style would lend itself to other things, should you be looking for a designer (or one that isn't me lol)

  • The NEW Friends of Cotteridge Park Youth Club started this week. If you know a tween(?) 10-13 years old why not invite them along on Mondays between 4.30 and 6. Hot chocolate is free. There are lots more things happening in the park - from buggy walks, to tai chi, to bike polo and walking netball. Most of the information is on the park website.

  • And lastly for this week, local artist and researcher Roo Dhissou is hiring a studio assistant and a personal assistant - and all the details are in this instagram post. Email Roo for an information pack [email protected]

(see previous links lists here - there are some dates for things this week/during March)

I've been working (voluntarily) on getting Stirchley Community Market back up and running since a pandemic break. We had a christmas market and this is the first of quarterly markets for 2023.Stirchley Open Cinema are screening short films in the cinema room. If you're a weekly regular you'll undoubtedly have met James, one of the three organisers. Coworker Alex will also be there with her side-hustle Willow and MabelAnd Laura Babb, our lovely coworker Babb, is taking photos for us!Please come along and tell your local friends about it too. Here's more information about what's there.Saturday 18 March, 10am-3pm. Stirchley Baths.

Coworking space practical notices

  • Monday night - Laura's got her second sound bath at the coworking space. This one's sold out, but possibly more at the coworking space in the works. Info here

  • The landlord will be in at some point Monday or Tuesday to investigate (ie look at) a small leak. Hopefully this won't be too disrupting

  • I'm going to order more coffee from quarterhorse this week hopefully. Does anyone have strong opinions about which one? (Max?)

  • I wondered about sharing this in the coworking space whatsapp community, but I've managed to make it broad-cast only so can't crowdsource replies!! Useful for some things...

  • Julia's long term loaned me a monitor, which if you're in, and she's not, you'd be welcome to borrow. You'd need a keyboard and mouse, and a hdmi cable, but otherwise you're good to go (thank you Julia!)

Normally you'd find a 'Music to work to' playlist here, but I keep forgetting to ask people / prod people who have previously said yes. So this week I'm sharing a place-making playlist* that I made last week, for Cultural Placemaking - with some tenuous links, and cracking songs that I really like. Please send me your playlists if you've said you'd write one / volunteer yourself :DHere it is - enjoy. *Very niche, I know, I'm deep into a Neighbourhood Planning Toolkit project at the moment for Birmingham City Council (I'm part of the Birmingham Community Matters and Locality project team).

Ps. Here's the link to book in your desk for the week - see you soon!
